HOCKEY
The first thing I ever loved.
I was on the ice by age 4 learning to skate.
An Apple Valley Eagle from the age of 5 through my senior year of high school.
13 years of playing the game I love.
It is where my competitive drive came to life.
Where I learned to put the team above everything else.
Developed a strong work ethic.
Friendships that formed on the ice years ago.
Coaches whose messages I still hold onto today.
"Control what you can control: Attitude and Effort"
Hockey will always be my first love.
I can't wait to pass that love on as a coach in the future.
GOLF
While hockey was easy to fall in love with immediately, it took me a little while to come to love golf.
But I got there.
It has become how I judge the weather.
"yeah, I would golf today" - me every time it's above 40
It has taught me patience.
And it took a while for me to learn that one.
I've had my fair share of on course meltdowns.
I don't know if I've ever done anything more frustrating.
Yet it is so addicting.
I am here to tell the world that golf is not boring.
Take that as you wish, coming from a golf nerd.
SKIING
A late edition to the list of sports that I participated in.
My siblings and I got ski lessons at world renowned Buck Hill as a Christmas gift.
So there we went in our puffy jackets and hockey helmets with the facemasks taken off.
The love for hockey for years kept us off the slopes
as the competing seasons left us with no time.
I have twice been lucky enough to travel out west to ski.
Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Vail, Heavenly, and Squaw Valley
The ability to get outside and see the immense beauty that God has created is probably my favorite part of skiing.
Heavenly at Lake Tahoe is the perfect example.
And similar to golf, it becomes a 'bachelor night' for my dad and the boys!
But sometimes my mom will come visit us and join for lunch.
BASEBALL
It would be un-American for me to grow up and not play our national pastime.
Fun fact: my coach used to call me 'Johan' because I was the only 7 year old who could throw the ball down the middle.
That strategy didn't work out so well once I got older.....
I hated batting.
I had a pretty decent eye, so I seemed to either draw a walk or strike out looking at a pitch 6 inches off the plate.
The one time I took a 19 pitch walk though, that was pretty exhilarating.
I loved playing middle infield.
Then I decided to play golf instead of baseball in High School.
That ended my short lived baseball career, complete with a multi-year 'retirement' to play soccer.
